So, we were at the doctor AGAIN this morning! After all of the appointments, illnesses, and prescriptions, I decided that this month has been bad enough that it deserved a blog post.
It all started on March 2. I took Grant to the doctor because of coughing (that had been going on for about a week) and vomiting…sure enough, after chest x-rays and a thorough check from our beloved pediatrician (Dr. Amy) he was diagnosed with bronchitis AND the stomach flu, yeah I know, poor little guy. We started a five day course of antibiotics and breathing treatments. Brynna had one day of vomiting and nothing much more severe than that. Lee got sick this time too. I believe he missed two days of work and ended up at the doctor a week after Grant. He too, came home with antibiotics.
We seemed to get better for about the next week, then you got it, Grant was sick again! He went back to see Dr. Amy on March 23; this time he tested positive for strep throat. So, you guessed it, more antibiotics (this time for 7 days). He still was having some chest congestion and coughing, so she advised we do a few breathing treatments before nap/bed time. Well, that night was the WORST night ever. Grant was literally coughing ALL night. I don’t think more than a couple minutes went by without him coughing. It was so bad we called Grandma/Nurse Paula and eventually put a call in to the ER doctor. We tried putting him in the hot, steamy bathroom, taking him outside in the cold air, breathing treatments, cough medicine…nothing worked. Poor little guy had broken blood vessels on his face and around his eyes from coughing so much/so hard. He didn’t get any better, so on Thursday the 25th, we went back to the doctor. They did more chest x-rays and determined the bronchitis was BACK! So, we added another medicine to the breathing treatments and went home with a steroid for his lungs and a prescription cough medicine. He slowly recovered from this one, but it was a LONG week! While at the doctor on Thursday, Brynna was coughing and had a runny nose, the dr. started her on a five day course of antibiotics too, just to ward off any evil. So, we assumed we were on the mend.
Well, Brynna was pretty fussy over the weekend and continued to be fussy all this week. So, I decided to take her in today. Sure enough, she has an ear infection!!! YUCKO! So, yep a 10 day course of a stronger antibiotic!! Plus, instructions to come back in 10 days to check her ear again.
Throughout all of this, I did get a nasty cold/cough, but nothing more serious. Praise the Lord, because I was WAY too busy to be sick!
March 2-April 2
Doctor appointments: 5
Prescriptions filled: 8
Sleepless nights and long days: Too many to count!
Here’s hoping and praying that April is a little kinder to us! Oh, and I need to hit the store to restock my antibacterial wipes and Lysol!!!

She is walking a little bit...usually, just takes off on her own, but only takes about 10-12 steps. She does really well at first, but then tries to go fast (and falls down) or gets nervous and tries to turn back around (and falls down). It's coming soon, I'm sure.
Can't believe we'll be celebrating her birthday in one short month!

Spring IS coming...
Finally, we are starting to see signs of Spring in this tundra we call SW Iowa. It's SLOWLY warming up and the snow is starting to melt...we can actually see a little grass in the yard. Grant is SO excited...along with the rest of us.
She loves it outside too! They both took three hour naps after playing outside for about an hour (well, Grant was out longer than that). Now, if only it would stop raining so we could get back out there!
We've been SICK here FOREVER! Grant has had bronchitis and a stomach virus (at the SAME time). He had to do breathing treatments and antibiotics. Brynna seemed to have a touch of the stomach virus part of one day, but then was better and is just dealing with a runny nose. Lee has had both the stomach virus and the cold/bronchitis stuff...but at different times, so his is just dragging on! Thankfully, I've only had a mild cold...God is keeping me healthy so I can take care of them, I guess!?!?! I've been cleaning and disinfecting the house like crazy and those germs just seem to be hanging around...YUCK!!!! Praying for warmer weather and a healthy family!!!
